Food and sex are deliciously intertwined in this many-layered turn-of-the-20th-century romantic drama from Mexico written by Laura Esquivel based on her best-selling novel. Lumi Cavazos gives a radiant central portrayal of Tita, eldest daughter of a wealthy farming family who is prevented by her mother from marrying her sweetheart, Pedro, (Marco Leonardi). Tita takes refuge in the kitchen where she learns all the mysteries of culinary magic from the Mexican Indian servants - and uses her art to create some extraordinary effects on those who consume her offerings.
