The Escapist
On learning that his daughter is gravely ill, lifer Brian Cox leads an audacious prison break, aided and abetted by fellow lags Joseph Fiennes and Liam Cunningham. Inevitably, there are spanners in the works – namely cell-block psycho Steven Mackintosh and his crime-king brother Damien Lewis. From build-up to breakout, this is a lean and absorbing debut from writer-director Rupert Wyatt, who went on to make Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
