Patti Smith: Dream of Life
The legendary Chicago-born rocker-poet gets the documentary treatment in former commercials director Steven Sebring's off-kilter portrait. The result of 11 years of filming, the free-forming, grainy black and white art movie, with music and lyrics courtesy of Smith, probes the life and mind of punk rock's godmother, who burnt onto the counter-culture music scene in the early 1970s, hung out with William Burroughs, Bob Dylan, Sam Shepard, collaborated with notorious photo artist Robert Mapplethorpe, and retired for 16 years in 1979.
