The Weather Man
Nicolas Cage plays a Chicago TV weatherman who's sunny on screen but whose private life - estranged wife, wacky kids, dying dad - has a permanent cloud hanging over it. Director Gore 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Verbinski tries to achieve what Alexander Payne did with <i>About Schmidt</i>... but with Michael Caine on curmudgeonly form as Cage's dad, don't expect many bright spells from a script that's shorter on sunshine than it is on shadow.
