The Sand Pebbles
Action blockbuster starring Steve McQueen as a loner engineer drawn into battle on a US gunboat in China in 1926. He gives one of his best performances as Jake, an uncompromisng seaman who is a newcomer to the crew of an old gunboat now doing duty on the Yangtze River. His job is to patrol the interior waters of China, where the the US government is trying to protect its interests in the face of Nationalist and Communist battles against the feudal warlords.
