Captain Corelli's Mandolin
Sumptuous adaptation of Louis de Berniere's bestselling WWII romance with Nicolas Cage as the Italian soldier who sweeps Greek islander Penelope Cruz off her feet - while her fiance (Christian Bale) is fighting overseas. All's never fair in love and war, but the heartfelt performances certainly are (nice to see Cage putting the accent on romance), as is the beautiful scenery of Cephalonia. More tourist-trapping epics like this and the Greek economy would be booming.
