Like the story of Jake 'Raging Bull' LaMotta, this is an uncompromising look at the price of fame, with fine support work from Arthur Kennedy and Paul Stewart as Midge's devoted brother and manager, respectively, capped off with a wrenching turn from Ruth Roman as his emotional punchbag of a wife. It was nominated for six Academy Awards and won one for best film editing.
