Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves director Kevin Reynolds takes a good swipe at the Alexandre Dumas swashbuckler, following the wildly varying fortunes of a betrayed sailor sent to rot in a notorious island prison. After 13 long years, the innocent Dantes (Jim Caviezel) finally executes his brilliant escape... before seeking revenge on Mondego (Guy Pearce), the rotten dastard who put him there. Richard Harris co-stars alongside a fresh-faced Henry Cavill - the new Superman - as Mondego's son.
