The Marriage of Maria Braun
A Berlin woman (Hanna Schygulla) married to a missing soldier (he's been imprisoned following WWII) becomes involved with a black American soldier while working as a hostess at a nightclub for Allied servicemen. The first in his BRD trilogy - along with Veronika Voss and Lola - this was one of German director Rainer Werner Fassbinder's most successful films and helped shape the image of the New German Cinema abroad.
