Albatross
Felicity Jones turns in a star-making performance as the bookish Beth, a withdrawn teenager who befriends Emelia (Downton Abbey's Jessica Brown Findlay), a boozy wild child who takes a job at Beth's parents' seaside hotel. However, when Emelia begins an affair with Beth's father (Sebastian Koch), a writer still living off the success of his first book, she gradually comes to realise that her carefree behaviour has consequences. Director Niall MacCormick and his excellent cast (including Julia Ormond as Beth's mum) combine warmth and wit in a low-budget comedy-drama reminiscent of 80s British classic Wish You Were Here...
