Cape Town marine biologist Kate Mathieson (Halle Berry) is so in tune with her subject she's known as the "shark whisperer". However, after an attack which left a fellow diver dead, she has been haunted by the experience and never gone back in the water. With bills piling up and bailiffs threatening her boat, ex-hubbie Jeff (Olivier Martinez) presents her with a lucrative opportunity to lead a thrill-seeking millionaire businessman on a dangerous shark dive...outside the cage.
