Cinema Paradiso's Guiseppe Tornatore directs this 40-year saga of Sicilian life. Palermo street kid Pietro embraces communism as a rebuttal of both Mussolini's fascism and the Mafia and rises up through the ranks of the party while getting married to Margareth Madè (a model in her first acting role) and raising a family.
