The Friends of Eddie Coyle
A sour-faced Robert Mitchum plays a small-time ageing hoodlum who becomes caught between the grinding wheels of the police and gangsters. Facing a prison stretch, he turns informant but finds himself treacherously outmanoeuvred into becoming a "permanent goddamned fink" who eventually falls under the suspicion of the bad guys. This chilling gangster melodrama is is based on the tough and cynical novel by George V Higgins, a novelist famed for his biting dialogue.
